"Vasilisa and Baba Yaga" is a Russian fairy tale about a young girl named Vasilisa, who is sent into the dark forest by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters to fetch light from the fearsome witch, Baba Yaga. With the help of a magical doll given to her by her late mother, Vasilisa bravely navigates the eerie woods and reaches Baba Yaga's hut, which stands on chicken legs. Baba Yaga assigns her difficult tasks, but with the doll’s aid, Vasilisa completes them. Eventually, Baba Yaga sends her home with a glowing skull lantern, which burns her wicked stepfamily to ashes. Vasilisa later finds fortune and happiness, proving that kindness, courage, and wisdom triumph over cruelty.

  • Life is a Fairy Tale is a series of seven sculptures that explores the fragile boundary between stable housing and the life events that can lead to homelessness. Many of the fairy tales we grew up with—such as Hansel and Gretel and The Three Little Pigs—center around a single event that forces the characters into homelessness, highlighting the unpredictability and vulnerability of losing one's home.
